Nursing Gown, No Thank You

Gilligan & O'Malley Women's Robe

I admit that I simply love robes. As a new mom, they are so easy to put on when the baby wakes up in the wee hours of the morning. This Gilligan & O’Malley robe is soft, so it’s great for cuddling my baby, and the fabric doesn’t irritate delicate baby skin, which is a huge advantage. It’s nice and stretchy because it’s a polyester/spandex blend. It has long-sleeves, but they are loose and easy to push up or roll to the elbows should I need to put my hands in water. I find it easy to pull the top aside for breastfeeding or skin-to-skin time with my baby.

It comes in a shimmering shade of black and reaches the knees, so it looks good with some pajama bottoms, and no modesty is sacrificed if it’s worn on its own. It’s warm without making me sweat in the house, which is another big plus. It also has a tie inside the robe that helps it remain snuggly tied when I’m moving around or carrying my baby. It comes in sizes that range from XS to XXL, so there’s a size that will fit just about anyone. The only minor complaint I have is the front will tug up just a bit due to the slippery nature of the fabric. The inside tie helps with this problem, but I do sometimes look down and realize one edge has pulled up two or three inches above the other, offering a a lovely view of my knee and lower thigh.

Gilligan & O’Malley is a Target store brand, so it’s easiest to find it there.  The best prices appear to be there, and the selection is better as well. Gilligan & O’Malley has an extensive selection of robes, bras, camisoles and underwear, and a great deal of it is especially made for expectant and nursing moms. The products are of a good quality, and the prices are reasonable. This is a huge plus given how expensive maternity and nursing wear can be in some of the specialty stores.

Overall, I give the robe 4.5 stars. The issue with it pulling up is a minor annoyance and a small price to pay for such a soft, baby-friendly fabric. Being able to order it online is another happy plus. We all know how much work it is to go shopping with an infant in tow.
