The Maternity Uniform

Gap Maternity Wrap Dress

One of the most challenging parts of pregnancy is finding clothing that fits well and is still fashionable. Fortunately, maternity fashion has come a long way from the “tent dresses” and jumpers of the 1980’s. Many designers are now offering chic, comfortable options to dress your baby bump. One of my maternity must-haves is a versatile little black number: the Gap maternity short sleeve wrap dress. Let me give you just a few reasons why I love it.

This dress is amazingly comfortable! It has the feel of super soft pajamas in a highly durable rayon/spandex blend. With its lightweight feel and breathable fabric, I always felt wonderful wearing it. The wrap part of the dress ties securely and there’s plenty of fabric to allow the dress to grow with you as your belly grows. No worries about the tie coming undone or showing any skin on the side where it wraps. Beautiful and modest for mom-to-be! The comfort and ease of wear made me want to lounge around the house all day in it.

This brings me to another favorite part about the Gap maternity short sleeve wrap dress: it is versatile like no other maternity dress I’ve owned. It can easily be paired with a cardigan and pumps for a business casual look. Or, add some colorful jewelry, tights, and cute heels for a date night. I even paired mine with flip flops and wore it to a barbeque. It’s that easy to dress it up or down. Believe me, you will get some mileage out of this dress! I’ve even been able to wear it postpartum. (Shhhh…that’s our secret.)

No matter how tall or short you are, this Gap dress will fit well and look lovely. For my 5’10” friends, expect the hem to fall right above the knee, while the fit is more mid-calf if you’re around 5’2″. Either way you get the sleek look of a wrap dress with ample room for your burgeoning belly, no matter what your height. This dress also fits true to size, so for example if you normally wear a size 4/6 when you’re not pregnant, go with a small. The only downside to this dress is that it’s a bit low cut, but that’s easily remedied with a tank top underneath. For that reason alone, I’d give it a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Overall it’s a chic maternity dress that’s versatile enough to take you from business casual to date night or even a wedding, depending on how you choose to accessorize. Yes, ladies, it’s available to look fashionably pregnant thanks this Gap maternity short sleeve wrap dress. Without question, this piece should be a staple in every mommy’s wardrobe, and at $50, it’s a steal for as often as you’ll wear it.
